Even 1890 days after the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir looks like a complete mess. Here the tug of war between plains and mountains is seen as before.

Jammu and Kashmir has been waiting for elections for more than ten years. The last time assembly elections were held here in year 2014. In such a situation, when the Election Commission announces assembly elections here, Jammu & Kashmir will see a breath of fresh air. But even 1890 days after the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu & Kashmir looks like a complete mess.

Here the tug of war between plains and mountains is seen as before. While the lotus of the Bharatiya Janata Party seems to have blossomed in the plains of Jammu, the claw mark remains intact in the valley. Let’s find out how the atmosphere is here and who is moving towards forming the government here.

So what are the trends saying?

If we look at the trend of Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections till 11 am, the Congress alliance is leading in 47 seats out of total 90 assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, BJP is leading in 28 seats. Apart from this, PDP is leading in four seats and others in 11 seats. Out of 43 seats in Jammu, BJP is leading in 24 seats, while 12 seats will go to the Congress alliance.

The PDP account does not seem to open here. Others lead by seven positions. On the other hand, the Congress alliance looks strong in 35 of the 47 seats in Kashmir. Here BJP is leading in four seats while PDP is fighting in only four seats. Apart from this, four seats will go to others.

Has BJP’s mission failed in Jammu?

Looking at these trends in Jammu & Kashmir, it seems that BJP’s mission in Jammu has completely failed. In fact, till the 2014 assembly elections, Jammu and Kashmir had a total of 111 seats. Of this, 46 seats are in Kashmir and 37 seats are in Jammu. Meanwhile, four seats went to the account of Ladakh. Apart from these, 24 seats will come in PoK. After the separation of Ladakh, only 107 seats were left in Jammu and Kashmir.

In such a situation, as per the new delimitation, 114 seats have been reduced in Jammu and Kashmir. Out of which 90 seats went to Jammu and Kashmir and remaining 24 seats went to POK. In Jammu and Kashmir, 43 seats went to Jammu and 47 seats to Kashmir. This means that according to the new delimitation, six seats have massive increased in Jammu state, while only one seat has increased in Kashmir state. Now if we look at the 2014 assembly elections, BJP won 25 seats out of 37 seats in Jammu . Now it seems that BJP is leading in only 24 seats in Jammu despite having 43 seats.

Why the chaos in Jammu and Kashmir..?

If we look at all the elections held so far in Jammu & Kashmir, the National Conference and PDP have always been dominant in Kashmir except for the Congress. At the same time, the saffron party seems to be dominant in the Jammu field. After the removal of Article 370, the people of Jammu and Kashmir were expected to give a unilateral verdict. But this time also the result seems to be the same.

    When was Article 370 removed..?

On August 5, 2019, the Modi government abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. After that, the special status of Jammu and Kashmir was removed and it was converted into a union territory. Also, Ladakh was also separated from it. After that, the speculations about the assembly elections continued. It was once said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will be able to celebrate the festival of democracy only with the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. But even this dream was not fulfilled. However, the Election Commission has announced that assembly elections will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on August 16, five years and 12 days after the abrogation of Article 370.
