Bhagmati Express (12578) train from Mysore to Darbang via Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana rammed into the goods train which was stopped on the tracks. The accident took place near Kavaraipettai railway station in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. In this incident, train carriages were blown up. Others fell scattered. Around 13 coaches were derailed. All the AC coaches were in the front of the Bhagmati Express and the passengers were seriously injured.

The injured passengers were shifted to several nearby hospitals for treatment. The Railway Department said that alternative transport arrangements have been made to reach the remaining passengers to their destinations.
Meanwhile, the accident of three trains colliding in Odisha, which shocked the entire country last year, is still lingering in front of the eyes. Hundreds of passengers died in this accident. At that time, the railway officials concluded that the accident occurred due to the failure of green signals and change of train track. But it seems that exactly the same mistake happened in the recent accident in Tamil Nadu.
At 8.27 pm Bhagmati Express passed Ponneri station and while coming to Kavaraipettai station went from main line to loop line. At the same time, the railway officials revealed that the green signal was given to the express train. Due to this, the express train collided with the goods train which was stopped on the loop line. Officials said the train was traveling at a speed of 75 kmph at the time of the accident. Both trains caught fire after the accident.
The accident took place at Kavarapetai railway station. Several passengers were injured in the accident. The railway staff and the police reached the spot and started rescue operations. The injured were taken to hospital for emergency treatment.
